On November 19, 2023, Gabriella Marinelli won the title of Miss Richmond County at a local Miss America Opportunity preliminary competition. She will be moving on to compete at the state competition of Miss New York later in 2024.
The Miss America Opportunity is the largest scholarship provider to women in the United States. At this competition, Gabriella took home the awards for Excellence in Public Relations, Overall Red Carpet Award, Overall Health and Fitness Award, and Overall Talent Award. Each overall award grants Gabriella with more scholarship money. Even though she just graduated undergrad from Hofstra University, she plans to receive a higher education in the near future.
Her Community Service Initiative is called Mindful Media: promoting media literacy education. She hopes to be a resource for the youth as they navigate the ever-changing media landscape. Every Monday, she posts a Mindful Media Monday to provide a briefing of a story in the media at the moment. Currently, only two states in the United States have mandates for K-12 instruction of media literacy education and hopes to help change that.
